Blood

Blood is a vital tissue of the human body as its main priority is to perform cellular respiration, and without this process the body would not be able to complete tasks in order to keep it functioning. The blood also has the responsibility of transporting hormones and other signals throughout the body, regulating pH and core body temperature. If the pH of blood exceeds the normal range of 7.35-7.45, life-threatening symptoms can occur and cause permanent damage to the body.

The body must find ways to maintain this range in order to control the pH in blood. This is done by using the bicarbonate buffer system which in return is used in order to obtain and control the optimal pH of the blood serum. Blood contains all three buffer systems as it is the fluid that needs the most regulation because it has the most significant effect on other bodily fluids. The bicarbonate buffer system is the main method in which the blood is buffered, though it is supported with the other buffer systems as well.
